  • Interview for Grad Programs:
    • Look at the mission statement of the program you are applying to, as well as the learning outcomes for the program. This will prepare you to tailor your answers for interview questions to best suit what they are looking for. When answering questions, try to be specific as possible. Use examples from your experiences, and highlight student leadership. You can also try contacting students currently enrolled in the program in which you hope to attend. The students will give you valuable information on how they got into the program, what the program is like, and any advice they may be able to offer.
  • Prepare for Advising Sessions:
    • When going to see an adviser keep in mind that they advise multiple majors, so make sure you let them know your name and major. Also, have questions prepared. Advisers serve you best when they know exactly what you need from them, so come prepared. Use other resources to your advantage, a lot of your questions can be answered online or by other members of the major. That being said, do not always rely on classmates for answers. You peers mean well, but that might not always have the most accurate information. Lastly, if you plan to ask an adviser for a letter of recommendation, set them up for success. They may know who you are, but information about your life and experiences can help them draft a more comprehensive letter. Also, give them at least one month’s notice to write the letter. Remember they advise a lot of students, and may have a lot of letters of recommendation to write.
